Internet for better education

Fast internet access..?? it’s a good news. Cheap internet.. Hell yeah.. it’s gigantic. It’s totally awesome for interest of Indonesian people.

And now we have First Media with their products FastNet who claim their self the only broadband internet service provider that offers unlimited fast internet access at affordable prices (it’s damn true..).

A little bit intermezzo about FastNet. I’m using FastNet now and it’s been a month, i took FastNet 768 and it’s running well. Altough there’s a problem with bandwidth speed at certain time. But it’s cool with me, i can tolarate that. Well.. it’s much better than TelkomNyet or Speedy (or should i change slowly..??) or any other ISP.

Well, cheap and fast internet access only happened in big city like Jakarta. The rest of province still using bad internet connection. I think the goverment should take action and do this program, “Cheap and Fast Internet Access in Indonesia”. I mean “Dari sabang sampai Marauke” not only in big city. Can you imagine, our country waste a lot of money for program they don’t use very effectively (and they use our money..)..??? And know imagine, if that money (yes.. it’s our money) they use to build an IT Infrastructure to support development for fast internet access. I think the growth of our country will be rapidly increase.

What about the cost..?? how long the cost will return..?? Well, we should change that thought. It’s not cost, it’s investment. I repeat again clearly.. “IT’S NOT COST, IT’S INVESMENT”. And sadly.. we’re late, it’s already happen in other country’s and some of them already success with this program. But it’s better late then never. If we do this program, i’m very sure it can give a lot of benefit in every aspect in our country, specially in education.

Yes, education. Education maybe isn’t my field, but internet it is. I found internet can very usefull to enhance education in Indonesia. Yes it is, internet can be use as an educational tool. How..?? Do you know internet are the biggest library in this world..?? Students can access to a billion interactive and dynamic materials on internet, and million new web pages a day. It’s a big amount numeral of knowledge.

It’s just one of many advantage using internet for education. The other..?? Hmmm, what first come in my mind is communication. Our curriculum didn’t give much attention to communication, it’s all about theory, theory and little bit of practice. Do you ever attend to seminar and all the participants came from all country’s??? I did, and guess which country who’s not raise their hand when a disscussion happen. INDONESIA.

With internet, student can learn and interact with other people. They can access to people from all over the world, they can communicate with all student all over the world. They can emailing, discussion (personally or groups), exchange documents and all the whole communication things.

Next is teaching and training. Internet can eliminate distance learning programs. Teacher can teach without boundary, they can teach without being presence at class room. They can use video conference, give assginment on web and other cool things internet can done. Internet also can do collaborative teaching, they can collaborative with other teacher from all over the world. And also can do peer tutoring and professional development. Yes, like i said before there’s no boundary when you’re using internet.

Research. Student can do their own research, they can be free to search and give rise to independent learning. Using search engines student can have every knowledge material they want. And for development to their research, student will share their resource and it create a solid platform for group “real world” projects to build something usefull for this country. Can you imagine that..?? The power of young generations, they will be growth big and so does our country.

Publishing on internet also one of impotant thing for education. They can create personal or group to strengthen their presence and also give other information about them such as; newsletters, brochures, reports and maybe find some investor or donatur to funding their research. Cool isn’t it??

So, our goverment must start to think the future education of young generation by providing a good IT Infrastructure for them. I hope powerfull leader read this and make this happen for the good sake of our young generations and our lovely nation, Indonesia.

After i write a dozens of word and read it again. I realize, hey.. this is the concept of eEducation. Am i right???
